This 36th entry in the Endless Quest series marks the end of an era for the Endless Quest books. This would be the last book published in the 1980s and although the series would resume publication with #37 in 1994, we can say that the classic, original, run of Endless Quest books ends here.
It is, therefore, unfortunate that the series goes out (temporarily at least) with a whimper and not a band, Song of the Dark Druid is not one of the most popular in the series and feels overly grounded in British folklore to really feel like a part of any of the D&D universes (although soon enough the Moonshae region of Forgotten Realms would take centre stage with the Darkwalker on Moonshae novel and a gazetteer detailing the region, and that is also extremely British folklore influenced).

You get to play as a bard, which is neat, but the book is pretty easy and not too memorable. Oh well, we’ll return in 1994 to cover further Endless Quest entries, but it will take us a while to get there.
