A notable module for several reasons, Tomb of the Lizard king marks a change in visual identity to TSR products which would become the standard from here on out. You get a new angled logo as well as an overall redesign of the covers. The following year this would extend to redesigns of the main AD&D handbooks with new covers by Jeff Easley continuing the trend of moving away from cartoony and into more realistic painting styles.

As a module, beyond the cover, this one starts off differently. Before the adventure itself starts you have an opportunity to do a bunch of roleplaying in the court of the count of Eor who is hiring out your party to solve a problem with raiders who are coming out of the south. If you manage to finagle the information out of the count you will get a legend about a Lizard King, Sakatha, but you know he was around centuries ago, so he shouldn’t be a problem anymore…. should he?

As you move to solve the raider problem you will get further and further drawn into the plot and intrigue that will eventually lead you to the Tomb of Sakatha and the secrets therein. Let me warn you that this is a meat-grinder adventure and the module itself advises you to use pregenerated character rather than take your beloved PCs into this. So, yeah. You’ve been warned.
