Look at that beautiful Forgotten Realms logo right on the cover of this module. We’ve had modules before that were compatible with the Forgotten Realms setting, but not designed for it, and those had a little logo on the back cover. Here, for the first time we have a module purposely designed for play with what has, over time, become the most famous and played setting of the game.

By this time the Campaign Setting was already out (although I forgot to cover it here, I’ll fill that gap in my next post!) as was the Darkwalker on Moonshae Novel, but with this module we inaugurate a long period in which Forgotten Realms will become the default setting for AD&D and then D&D. All the way to 2024, when the revised fifth edition Dungeon Master manual seemed to imply Greyhawk was the new default setting. However, I’m sure that most adventures published in the next few years will still be set in the Forgotten Realms, the place where the Drizzt novels take place, where Baldur’s Gate is situated and the recentish movie was set. There’s no way WotC will let that long buildup of intellectual property slip through their fingers.

This module is a pretty simple one, meant for low level characters it also serves to introduce the setting with the small town of Daggerford and a number of varied quests meant to ease the players into the universe and into the game itself. Good stuff.
