With a truly spectacular cover by Jeff Easley featuring an Astral Dreadnought (before there was such a thing), this is a manual to all the different planes of existence in the D&D universe, from Ethereal to Inner and Outer, including the Elemental and Quasi-Elemental planes, and of course the Astral plane. This is before the development of some planes which would become iconic in the game, such as the Feywild and Shadowfell which would come later, but there is plenty of interest for players using any edition of D&D in this book.

Grubb admits right from the start, in the Special Thanks section of the book, that he is standing on the shoulders of others who came before him and gives just plaudits to people like Ed Greenwood and Roger Moore who had already written extensively on the nature of planes in the pages of Dragon magazine, but having everything in one place within such an attractive hardcover is pretty great.

The book explains not only the nature, look and inhabitants of each plane, but it also details how magic works differently in each of them and effects that players might feel while travelling through these planes. Full of interior illustrations and diagrams this would be a pretty great resource for any DMs wanting to take players off the beaten path.
