Finally an official TSR Blackmoor adventure/campaign setting! A long time after what was actually the first D&D setting was invented by Dave Arneson in the early 70s we get more info and even an adventure set in this world. And where is this world? Well, that’s a complicated question. Starting off as an independent setting (it was the first, there was nowhere else to put it!) It was then semi-integrated into Greyhawk, but here it is, showing up in D&D where the world will be known as Mystara. Eventually it gets integrated in Mystara as a kind of mythical place that disappeared, an Atlantis type place, but for all intents and purposes it is better to think of it as an independent setting, which was how it started and will be how it will become later on.

This is not the first product with the Blackmoore name, of course, all the way back in the 70s Blackmoore came out as the second supplement to Original D&D, but this was less a campaign setting than just added content for the original game, although we did get a glimpse of Blackmoore in the adventure that came with the supplement, Temple of the Frog (we’ll get back to that adventure in the future).

So, this volume gives us plenty of information on the world and history of Blackmoore, but unfortunately features an adventure which is a bit stuck in one place. This is an Inn that is unmoored in time and the party gets to go on three different adventures inside this same Inn. Still a fun time to be had, and pretty good information about this new setting, so definitely worth taking a look.
