If you want the party that you are DMing to take a slight detour, maybe for you to gain some time in preparing the next stage of the campaign, or just as a breather, and you’d like them to go into a Bear cave, or fight 251 Hobgoblins in their home, then this is the book for you!

The Book of Lairs, as the title implies, gives you a bunch of monster (and some NPC) lairs for players to explore, these are pretty useful not only, as said above, as a distraction, but also, if you are creating your campaign as a place where a quest item might be hidden, for example.

The downside of this book is the lack of maps for these lairs, which gives the DM a bit more work than needed, especially if using this as a buffer, but also the fact that the majority of monster lairs here are pretty run of the mill. The second volume of the lairs books would solve some of this, and we will see that when it comes out in ’87.
