And so, at last, we come to the final episode of the D&D animated series. It ends a bit abruptly, without any satisfying conclusion to the Venger plotline, without Venger even showing up in this final episode at all. The kids also don’t get to go home, and at the end the Dungeon Master mentions a magician named Krynn (it sounds like the same name as the world where Dragonlance is set, at least) who can get them home (maybe).

There was indeed a script concluding the story properly that never got to be produced, although many years later it would find its way to the DVD release of the series as an audio play and later on fans did recreate that script as a pretty good approximation of what it would have looked like, you can easily find both versions online. I’ll cover it probably years from now as we go on in the timeline and I get closer to our time.

Now, about this episode, it’s not a bad standalone effort, with a pretty scary baddie and a plot that feels at the start somewhat reminiscent of Ravenloft as the party gets attacked by a pernicious fog and a gothic horror scarecrow monster. Bobby runs away to get help and finds what seems to be a travelling lady who goes around in a kind of Romani wagon, which also reminds us of Ravenloft. One of the gothier and scarier episodes of the series, which is pretty fun in itself, but unfortunately an abrupt ending for the series.
