A bit of a bittersweet issue this one, although it has plenty of the usual cheerful stuff with a great article on Dragonlance’s Gnomes and another really long one on Centaurs, it also focuses two articles on something that will never be and on something that was but kind of failed in its purpose.

The first of these is Gary Gygax’s article on “The Future of the Game” where he sets out his ideas and plans for what he sees as the second edition of AD&D coming down the line. However, with the benefit of hindsight we now know that Gygax would end up leaving TSR before the second edition came out in 1989 and the ideas he had would be put aside.

In terms of the second article which feels a bit bittersweet is the long first part of an errata for the Unearthed Arcana book. A book intended to make people not be dependent of all those articles that came out in Dragon magazine, now feels the need to print a bunch of correction in that magazine because there were so many errors in the book, ultimately defeating the purpose of Unearthed Arcana by making players and DMs again dependent on stuff published in the middle of Dragon magazine. Oh well.
