The last of the Crimson Crystal series, this one keeps the gimmick of having red cellophane through which you can discover secrets in images, but jettisons the idea of a Crystal in terms of story completely, replacing it with a magical coin that gives the player magical vision (which then serves the same purpose as the crystal).

In this story the player has to save his village from a witch which has turned all its people into lizards. The witch is quite powerful so you get the assistance of a cleric who isn’t particularly competent. With a great Elmore cover and some pretty bad interior illustrations by Mario Macari (who also did the worst illustrations in the Fantasy Forest series) it’s an ok book in terms of play and story, but nothing special.

We come, then, to the end of the Crimson Crystal series which joins Fantasy Forest and HeartQuest in the pantheon of short lived TSR gamebook series. Endless Quest and AD&D Adventure Gamebooks (or Super Endless Quest) would continue their runs into the late 80s (with Endless Quest coming back periodically in the 90s and 2010s).
