Another in the long series of Endless Quest gamebook, this time by Regina Fultz, with this being her only contribution to the series and apparently the only book she wrote. It’s a pretty stereotypical story to start with, at least. You and a friend are walking around the fields when you are faced with a “haunted tower” and you go in to explore… buy your mother disappeared in that very tower 2 years ago.

So, as you can imagine, you have a kind of dungeon crawl with some good features and monsters, you get to “fight” a hydra as well as play an Alice in Wonderland/Harry Potter style living chess game.

Pretty well written it is also a bit linear, as many of these books were, being aimed at a younger audience. The right options are always a bit obvious and you should have no problem finishing the story.
