The second in the Super Endless Quest series of gamebooks aimed at the more savvy player who wants a more complex experience than the Endless Quest books, with more complicated play mechanics and a deeper story, this volume is an adaptation of the classic C2: Ghost Tower of Inverness module from 1981.

As such you are thrust into what is a big dungeon with two companions that you also need to manage while trying to retrieve a magical artifact that will prove your innocence. The idea of making gamebooks based on the wider world of AD&D (volume 1 was set in Dragonlance) is a good idea that also helps to expand the gamebook’s appeal to a more experienced and knowledgeable crowd, and while this isn’t really specifically set in the world of Greyhawk, the original module was also a bit loosey goosey about where everything is set (more firm continuity would only come a bit later).

Still, it’s a fun adventure, not without its problems (weird continuity, dead ends and so on) which I figured might have to do with me reading it in an Italian translation, but according to reviews in gamebooks.org seem to also be present in English language editions. Nonetheless it’s still enjoyable stuff and it has a great Keith Parkinson cover!
