The idea behind the 6 gamebooks centred around the Cartoon Show should have been to have the player take the place of each member of the party, one per volume. That is pretty much what happens in every other volume of this series, but curiously not this one. We’ve had books where we play Bobby the Barbarian, Presto the Magician and Sheila the Thief up until now… what do we get in the fourth book? Michael, the brother of Eric the Cavalier, that’s who we get.

Probably because Eric was usually seen as the party pooper and most annoying of the members of the party, he wouldn’t have been seen as the most attractive POV character to have a gamebook about. Therefore, they bring in Michael, his brother, who just plops down in the D&D universe with what seems to be a Gold Dragon egg.

Of course, as in all other books Michael and Eric get separated from the rest of the gang and have to get back to them as well as send Michael back to “the real world”. They get captured by Venger and need to escape his dastardly maze to find freedom. Nothing here is particularly original and the book is in now way hard. The authors do add some minigames like mazes and connect the dots section, which while not having an impact on the game adventure itself are nonetheless fun.
