An interesting shift for Imagine magazine, which unfortunately comes a bit too late as the magazine will not outlast 1985, and will not manage to be successful with this new direction, but it’s a pretty cool thing they are trying to do starting with this issue.

They had already shown some of the same ideas on the issue (#12) centred around Bryan Talbot and his creation Luther Arkwright,  here they come back to that idea with an issue focused on Michael Moorcock. The editorial states that this is supposed to be an ongoing direction for the magazine, attempting to marry cult British fantasy authors with TTRPGs, mainly D&D, of course.

So in this issue we get a short story by Moorcock, a long interview with him and a short module set in the worlds created by him. Other articles cover issues like the Vampire in D&D and other non-descript subjects, but the focus and over half the magazine is given to Moorcock related items. This is pretty great and an attempt to create a clear identity for Imagine by using the best of British fantasy fiction writing to enhance the TSR products, giving them a British twist. A pity it won’t last that long.
