Making an adventure module for D&D using the characters and monsters from the LJN AD&D toyline sounds like a great idea. You get to use your toys as figures for the game, you get stats for all of them in the module and even for monsters like the Hook Horror or Roper toys which didn’t have stats before.

This has the added marketing advantage of not only creating a synergy with the toys but also of featuring characters that have shown up in the ongoing cartoon series like Warduke and Strongheart on the cover, as they are playable characters in this module. Of course this would be a great idea if you did it right, unfortunately they didn’t and this is a widely reviled module.

What could have been cool is so shoddily written that it feels only like a marketing ploy and not fan service. The quest is a boring fetch quest with a very outdated hack and slash adventure on rails to get to what the characters need to fetch. There are some really good illustrations by Jeff Easley inside, as well as good maps, but in terms of adventure it’s nothing if not disappointing.
