Merle Rasmussen has quickly become TSR’s go to guy for solo player modules, and this is another example of those. TSR is still trying to figure out a way to make these modules work and be fun to play and this time they are using a Magic Viewer, which has very little magic to it, being essentially a red piece of cellophane in a paper frame which will filter out the red noise from the text and maps printed on the module, allowing the player to see what’s under it.

They’ve tried magic pens, complex tables and now the magic viewer. None of these gimmicks is ideal, but at least they are experimenting with stuff. Eventually, as the technology develops, the solo AD&D experience will very much be relegated to PC Games, which makes a lot more sense. But we’ll still have some of these left.

In this adventure we get four different levels from underground to the rooftops of an urban setting, and have to use one of three pre-rolled characters (a thief, and assassin and a monk) all of which have different objectives and start at different locations on the map, this makes the game replayable at least three times, and that seems quite good value for one module.
