A very different module for the B series, which consisted up until now of mainly dungeon-centred low level modules for use with the Basic D&D set, this is also for Basic use, but innovated by setting the adventure in an urban environment and adding politics and factions to the story. It also adds some cut outs that can be used in the adventure, but those are really the least interesting thing here, even if they might be the main marketing gimmick of the module.

So in the town of Specularum, the capital of the Grand Duchy of  Karameikos in Mystara (the Mystara setting was still very loose at this time) there are several noble/criminal families vying for power, a murder occurs and the party is supposed to figure it out. Interspersed in the module are narrative sections that read like a short story that really help shape the world and the motivations of the villains for the DM. There’s a real sense of place in this short module.

This turns the adventure into a political thriller, police procedural in an urban setting with a number of mini-dungeons for low level players which is definitely more interesting than most other low stakes dungeon crawls for low level players in the B series. A unique module, well worth taking a look at.
