With an action cover by Jerry Eaton, this issue of Dragon starts off with an editorial that does something really useful that all magazines that accept reader submitted articles should do on occasion: providing a list of articles they would like to publish and are actively looking for. This is a great incentive for readers who might want to submit their ideas.

The magazine continues with The Ecology Of… the Peryton, those weird bird deer who are really into hearts. Then we have an article by what I imagine is a young Kevin J. Anderson, who would be about 20 at this point, long before he became a renowned writer of Star Wars and Dune novels. Anderson brings us an article on using Herbs and Weeds for medicinal purposes in AD&D, thankfully with a disclaimer letting us know that “this is for the game, don’t try it at home”.

Later we have an article with a bunch of magical rings by various authors, including Ed Greenwood’s Jhessail’s Ring, from Forgotten Realms’ Knights of Myth Drannor. Bruce Heard gives us an article on how to set up magic research in the game, and the usual comics round out the issue. Some good stuff here!

  1. Always loved this cover as well. There had been an episode of Buck Rogers right around this time with an animated sword as I recall.
