The fourteenth book in the Endless Quest series brings us young orphan human Kyol who has been adopted by Elves. One day the leader of the Elves, Estragone, gets kidnapped and taken to Nightmare Castle. At first we are left behind by our adoptive brother and father who go on a rescue mission, but eventually we take our trusted hawk Tailspin and follow them on the adventure.

The story is quite fun and long, but it’s a bit hard for me to judge how good the book is because I only had access to the Spanish version of it, I could read it fine, but I’m sure some nuance was lost in translation. Still I got to the end of the story in a satisfying way, saved Estragone and that was that!

The great cover is by Jeff Easley (and you can get a print of the painting on his website) and the interior art is, as usual for both these and the HeartQuest books, by Jim Holloway. I think Jim’s art is actually better here than in most HeartQuests which probably reflects this being the more established book series to which he dedicated more time and detail to his drawings. Pretty fun stuff, I’ll add the Spanish cover above as well, so you can see it.
