The third in the six-book HeartQuest series this time we get a… drum roll… secret sorceress as a main character! As we start the story, what was supposed to be the last wizard in the land dies, but not without sending off a message through his pet bird to find Mialie out POV character. Mialie is a slave girl to a race of beings named Yorguths (yes it just looks like “Yogurts” misspelled). Mialle is a secret sorceress, no one knows it but she has magical powers that she has kept hidden because the Yorguths disapprove of magic.

In the message she gets the instructions to look for the Cavern of Enchantment where her destiny will be revealed. As she starts going on her way she meets Prince Shaw, who decides to tag along. As usual we get some distinct paths which will determine the shape of the story. Here we can take the Caves of Gallendale, the Cloistered Valley or the Castle River path. I took the Caves all the way to a successful end, but all the paths will take you there, with different NPCs and events, making the book replayable at least twice over.

Another fun entry in the series, the romance element feels like a bit of an afterthought, at least in the path I took, right up to the very end. These are, however, competently written and still hold up as a bit of fun today. Well worth tracking down these little known additions to the Dungeons and Dragons universe.
