Written by animation veteran Buzz Dixon (also a great name for a vibrator), the 9th episode of the D&D animated series introduced us to the character of Dekkion, an undead Knight again in the service of Venger, however, like so many of the secondary villains in the series he is basically a reluctant villain.

With a teaching about not judging a book by its cover, the scary skeletal Dekkion proves to be much better than what he looks. In the meanwhile he manages to recruit our party of young heroes to do a little job for him in an ancient tower, in which they will have to face their greatest fears.

Something I’ve noticed in the series is the fact that it does have some pretty freaky moments, kind of scary for kids, but that was a staple of the early 80s and I know I just loved it as a small kid. There’s an excitement to horror that kids can completely relate to as long as it isn’t overdone and crosses the line into the traumatic, and this series is pretty good at doing that. The scene where Diana gets prematurely aged is pretty creepy, and I just love it. The Banshees that attack Presto and Eric are also great. The series continues delivering with strong episode after strong episode, it’s a joy to get to rewatch and review this!
