Another coloring book using characters from the D&D Animated Series to tell a little story, this has a little more than meets the eye. Published by Marvel Books, it curiously does not draw from TSR’s stable of illustrators, but instead uses some classic comic illustrators and writers for these books.

The cover is by Earl Norem, uncredited on the inside of the book, but with a clearly visible signature on the cover painting, Norem would be well known to fantasy fans as an artist for a lot of the cover for Savage Sword of Conan, and would at around the same time as this came out, be working on designs and art for He-Man and The Masters of the Universe.

The interior which features characters like Warduke, Strongheart and Kelek is drawn by Pablo Marcos, another Marvel artist who worked on Conan and Zombie comics, and written by David Anthony Kraft a regular at Marvel and more interestingly the creator of the renowned Comics Interview magazine. In terms of story, this is pretty straightforward good guys versus bad guys story, disputing the titular crown, fun stuff.
