With a pretty great cover that point to the Star Frontiers content inside, the fourth issue of Imagine is pretty similar to previous issues, and although I know this was for a UK audience which would have some difficulty getting Dragon as that would be pretty expensive to import, there is a feeling that Imagine does need to up its game.

Most of the regular columns still focus on newbie players and advice for them, and this is all well and good, but if they want to keep a captive audience they should have more context for more experienced players as well. In this issue they add some coverage of other games as well, which at least brings some variety to the magazine.

Part of the strength of the magazine, though, is their fiction selection, less centred around Sword and Sorcery in the way Dragon’s published fiction was, it gives us a short story by Anne McCaffrey, a pretty big get for such a small and new magazine. Other than that, there are some good articles on other used of Role Playing (such as psychological therapy and educational uses) and another about Postal Gaming, particularly useful if you don’t have any other players around you, which would often be the case in the UK, where there were less players, and there’s also a fun D&D based puzzle game.
