Jumping over the Endless Quests numbers 7,8 and 9 which were not D&D themed, but Top Secret and Star Frontiers themed, two other TSR games a spy and a scifi TTRPG respectively, we end up with number 10. Rose Estes is back with a slightly different take on the Endless Quest books and this one is notable for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it’s the first D&D Endless Quest to star a young girl rather than a young boy, and from what I can remember it’s surely the first piece of D&D fiction ever to start a non-male character as the protagonist. Second, it’s set in The World of Greyhawk (not Oerth, curiously), the Endless Quest books are usually seen as being set in Mystara by default, but here the Circus announcer clearly says, in universe, something like this being the “greatest Circus in the World of Greyhawk”.

Lastly, it’s also novel in that it has three clearly defined paths that the characters can take to the end of the story. As the opening sequence ends the reader can choose to help with the circus animals, with being trapeze artists or joining the “freak” sideshow. Any of these choices lead to different paths to success (or failure). In my first run through I went with the animals, where you get to meet Owlbears, Griffons, Displacer Beasts and a Kamadan, making its first appearance outside the Fiend Folio that I can think of.  Another fun entry in the Endless Quest series!
