With a marked improvement in terms of cover art over the first two issues, Imagine #3 is another issue in the UK house organ for TSR. This was still a relatively small and fledgling magazine, but with the UK fandom, gaming and fantasy scene being smaller than the US it very interesting to spot some pretty important people writing for Imagine by this issue. There are contributions here by two of the great science fiction and fantasy editors, critics and columnists in the UK, Dave Pringle who was one of the founders of Interzone and we also get a fiction story by David Langford, the editor of Ansible, prolific columnist and the man with the most Hugo Awards of all time (29 of them!).

In terms of content the magazine is again vert focused on AD&D and D&D in detriment of other TSR content, but they know their market, particularly in the UK was equally focused. With a couple of the usual columns for new players then we get what would really be a useful article for newbies, and article about the differences between Basic D&D and Advanced D&D, in these three pages they aim to explain the main differences with Basic being a looser system while AD&D is a much more crunchy and rules heavy affair. The adventure module in the magazine, A Box for the Margrave is a way for players to check out the differences between the two systems, which is a pretty interesting concept.

Interestingly they also  round up all the recent adventure modules released by TSR and review them, something which is sorely lacking from Dragon magazine in the US. Add to this some of the regular columns and a couple of more non-descript articles and comic strips and there you have it: issue #3 of Imagine.
