Much less well known than the American Dragon magazine, Imagine was the TSR UK publication. Lasting until 1985 and going for only 30 issues plus a special issue it wasn’t particularly successful, but it still published plenty of original material and most of it on D&D and AD&D, so it’s very much worth covering here.

This first issue is, as is to be expected, a bit light on content, this because most of the columns are introducing themselves, there’s still no reader’s mail of any significance and as a whole it serves mainly as an introductory issue. However there are already some unique features to it that can be seen in this issue. There’s a lot of cool, if some of it pretty amateurish art, with the grimier style of UK fantasy artists and there is also a unique sense of humor to it, which is to be expected from a publication directed to UK readers.

In terms of columns, it includes a beginner’s guide to Role Playing Games, which is pretty useful, together with the “Stirge Corner” a page for less experienced players, and a neat little mini-module for Basic D&D. Also included is a page for news from the D&D Players Association (the UK equivalent of the RPGA) and of course the requisite couple of comic strips, one of which The Sword of Alabron is particularly fun as it includes game mechanics in the comic itself.
