The fourth book in the Endless Quest series, the fourth written by Rose Estes and also the last one in those that came out in the first batch in June 1982, we would have to wait until early 1983 for more of these. I’ll cover them when we get there, but we’ll have a little pause for now as we move into July 1982.

In Return to Brookmere you play the part of an exiled Elven prince going to check out the family’s abandoned castle, which has been overrun by humanoids which in D&D terms means Goblins, Orcs, Bugbears and also Gnolls and Kobolds. You start off being separated from your party by a collapsing tunnel and your aim is to escape the castle ruins/dungeon.

You are accompanied by Mim, a talking amulet which is as much a companion as a hindrance as it has the tendency to talk when it shouldn’t. Fortunately you also meet other fascinating characters and you get what might be the first visible invisible stalker in history, looking positively alien. Funnest of all, however, is Sissel the 8 foot talking Weasel, your former childhood pet which has grown quite a bit since you were a kid.
