In this third volume in the Endless Quest series you play a young man who has a particular connection to the forest and the animal kingdom, you start off lying under a tree (a speaking tree!) with your friends fox and owl. Suddenly it’s revealed that earlier in the day a group of adventurers passed nearby on their way to the fabled Pillars of Pentegarn, knowing it’s dangerous you decide to follow them to warn them off the place.

Of course you end up joining them in their quest rather than stopping them, or this would be a very short book. However, it can still be a very short book if you play it a certain way. You can basically just walk right into the throne room with a small detour and take the whole kingdom in 10 minutes. I did this on my first read, and it was pretty anti-climatic. Fortunately, however, the book does tell you that you can always replay and do it a different way.

On my second read I took the long way around, retrieving artifacts and uncovering more of the story surrounding the Pillars and their history. This volume innovates by introducing a kind of party dynamics, where different characters give suggestions leaving the player to select from them or suggest a new way. Another fun entry in the series.
