We interrupt the coverage of the first four Endless Quest books to cover another of the publications that came out in June of 1982, which I will use as a breather between books, we get both Dragon and Polyhedron magazines this month, so we’ll do Dragon first, and this is a pretty stuffed issue.

With almost the totality of the issue dedicated to AD&D and D&D, with the exception of 2 or three articles, it opens with a great Larry Elmore cover, and being the sixth anniversary issue of the magazine it has a large section on dragons up front in the magazine, introducing what would become classic creatures in D&D, like the Faerie Dragon, among others. Moving on we get an article on Armor forged from Dragon scales and Gygax gives us an article about Spell Books and how to value them.

Most interesting though is Ed Greenwood’s article “Pages from the Mages” in which he describes four “lost spellbooks” described by Elminster to be found in the Forgotten Realms. We get loads of references to places in the FR that we’ve never heard of before, places like Luskan, Waterdeep, Silverymoon, Darkhold, Citadel Adbar and even characters like Alustriel and a Red Wizard are mentioned. Remember that FR as a setting would only be official by 1987, but these articles are already fleshing out the realms long before that. We also have a section dedicated to Half-Orcs and Orc Deities, and plenty of other fun stuff for your AD&D campaign. Great issue this one.
