Welcome to 1982 with the first issue of Dragon magazine for the year, and this one is not at all one of the most interesting or packed issues for D&D fans, but has at least a couple of articles that are worth it to look at a bit more in depth.

First among these is Gygax’s continuing description of the world of Greyhawk’s history, covering mainly military actions and forces of Stonefist, the Ice, Snow and Frost Barbarians, Ratik, Bone March, South Province, Sunndi, Idee, Irongate and Onnwall. As before these are just dry as bone descriptions of troops and alliances/wars, but it does feel like it gives slightly more context than in the previous issue. Far from enough, though.

The other interesting article here is Roger E. Moore’s “Dungeons aren’t supposed to be for “men only”” which discusses not only the fact that DMs should make their groups more women friendly but also gives us a pretty horrific description of some of the sexist attitudes present in DnD groups. When he quotes a DM saying about women NPCs that “I made their charismas really high and their strengths really low. That’s so they’re easier to rape when their city gets conquered” you can’t help but cringe at the atitude that helped so many women stay away from D&D and similar games. Who the hell would want to play that? There are the other usual articles including one by Greenwood on using modern elements in AD&D and the usual comics as well. Let’s get on with 1982, I’m almost being born!
