This magazine is a joint celebration issue! It brings together both the fiftieth issue of the magazine and the fifth year anniversary of Dragon. A happy coincidence due to the magazine having started off as bi-monthly and later having a bit of an uncertain release schedule, which resulted in this neat little thing.

So, what better way to celebrate Dragon than make this issue a special issue about Dragons? That’s exactly what they did, with articles on how to make Dragons physically tougher, how to care for dragon eggs and how to create new dragons from scratch. The issue also includes a bonus adventure, which isn’t anything to write home about, but is nice.

More interesting for TTRPG history aficionados is the long article on zines, covering 11 of the most popular zines and APAs (a kind of mailing list type publications, a bit like an internet forum before there was such a thing), with appreciations of the publications, a scoring system and description of the same. There’s also an article on averting your eyes from monsters like the basilisk or the medusa, and one on tips for how DMs can curb bad behavior from players. This month’s monster is a Giant Vampire Frog and we get the usual fun comics with Phil and Dixie, Finieous Fingers and Wormy.
