This issue starts a long tradition for the April issues of Dragon Magazine by having an extended humor section. Very often I don’t particularly like these section in the early magazines, as it feels pretty hackneyed and out-dated humor, however they did put some effort in this issue and I have to say I laughed out loud at the spoof version of Sage Advice (which is the regular rules questions column).

Not everything is humor here and we also get some great cover art as a bonus. We get some discussion on the subject of age differences in D&D groups, seeing as sometimes it’s hard to find a group of the same age to play the game, there was some discussion at this time about if adults and children could play together harmoniously or not. Opinions are divided and it all kind of boils down to personal tolerance levels and preferences, some people love playing with kids and others don’t, that’s ok. Interesting to see that in the more innocent days of 1980 no one seemed to raise the obvious question of whether that was “appropriate” or not. I was a kid who played with a group of adults and I loved it, so… that’s my take, I imagine I must have been annoying though.

Gygax brings us some musing on Conan (The Barbarian) as a D&D character, and Leomund’s Tiny Hut gives us instructions on how to build a good pantheon as well as telling us about all these player groups that just go around killing each new pantheon that is published on Dragon. All the regular columns are here, as usual.
