A special Halloween issue (a month later than it should have come out, although the editorial gives an excuse, saying they think November is really the month for scary stories… whatever they say), this is a number of pretty interesting articles.

This is a cool issue because it kind of sticks to the Halloween theme while at the same time giving some material for the “Satanic Panic” surrounding D&D that was developing at the time and would be a bigger thing in the 80s. The two articles on Demonology and how to summon demons in D&D as well as the article on Demonic Possession within the game are good examples of the stuff that would make uninformed fundamentalists raise their hackles. The article on summoning demons, using as its blueprint “Solomonic” rituals and stuff that is actually based on medieval manuals of demon summoning is particularly interesting.

Adding to the theme there’s also an article about a Witch class in the game (the second of these articles in the magazine’s short history, and it’s a revision of the previous Witch article) and another article on the main causes of death within the game. The fiction is horror as would make sense for this issue and the regular comics features and so forth round out the issue. Good stuff.
