If, in the last issue of Dragon, Tim Kask complained a lot about some of the Cons that year in the editorial, in this issue Gygax takes over the editorial as a guest writer in what is clearly an attempt to put out fires. He compliments a lot of the organisers and also talks about how GenCon was a bit of a disappointment in terms of attendance for several reasons, mainly to do with horrible weather.

After the damage control we get a pretty cool article, where the winners of the Origins ’78 tournament of D&D tell their story of how the adventure went. This was an abridged version of G1-3 or “Against the Giants” modules, with one Round per module. It’s a good read because it gives real insight into the format of D&D tournament play which was such a big thing then. After that we get an article with point systems for measuring competitive D&D, a humorous list of different D&D player personalities.

Other articles include one on how to use Wish spells, making more creative treasure hoards, the Mythos of Australia and we get another article about segregating magic into schools, which would later become a thing, with different names and a different system, but the idea has been floating around for a while.
