We start off 1978 in the history of DnD with February’s issue of Dragon, soon to start coming out monthly (from April) as announced in the editorial here. We can notice that the magazine is getting more and more geared towards D&D, there are some short articles for other games, but the vast majority of the magazine is dedicated to TSR’s flagship game.

There’s a (painfully unfunny) article on humor in D&D which just feels like a friend telling you one of those stories that “you just had to be there”… we weren’t there, so we aren’t laughing. On the more mechanical side there’s a variant rules article revamping the Illusionist class and then there are two large articles on pantheons to be added to the game, one of the Zoroastrian Persian Gods and supernatural beings and another on Lovecraftian Mythos.

Other articles cover the speed of magic and the treasure carried in ships, in case your party wants to do some pirating, there’s also an historical article on Druids to help you flesh out your character, and lastly a large excerpt from what would be D&D’s first fiction novel, the first of many: Andre Norton’s Quag Keep, Andre Norton or Alice Mary Norton as her real name was, was a respected science fiction and fantasy author and the first woman to be a SFWA Grand Master. So, my next step is to go read this novel, it might take me a few days to come back here, but in about a week it should be done (it isn’t that long!) see you soon!
